NOTE TO STUDENTS: Our Instructors teach with a variety of training methods.  Classes are coded according to the following key:

     F (Food) – The use of food as a reward/motivator is strongly encouraged.

     N (No Food) – The use of food is not permitted in class.    

     C (Combination) – Food is permitted, but the class will also utilize training techniques that do not rely upon food.

BASIC OBEDIENCE CLASSES

 

PUPPY CLASSES:  For dogs between 8 weeks and five months of age.  Born between Aug. 2, 2011 and Nov. 7, 2011.

Junior/Senior Puppy Class:

For all puppies from 8 weeks to 5 months of age on the first day of class.  Born between Aug. 2, 2011 & Nov. 7, 2011.

THERAPY DOG INTERNATIONAL (TDI):  This class is open only to those handlers seeking the Therapy Dog Intl. title (TDI) and who plan to do therapy work in the community.  Dogs must have taken the CGC class or have instructor approval.  This class is offered every 6 months.

COMPETITION OBEDIENCE CLASSES

 

FOUNDATIONS FOR OBEDIENCE AND RALLY II:  For dogs who have completed Foundations for Obedience and Rally I or with Connie’s approval.  Continued foundation skills for competition obedience and Rally.

AKC NOVICE – ON LEAD (10 week class):  For dogs who have completed CGC and Novice Rally, AKC Beginner Novice, or Foundations for Obedience and Rally; or who have the AKC RN or BN title.  This class will introduce the Novice exercises that are done on leash.

AKC NOVICE PROOF & POLISH:  For dogs who have completed CGC and Foundations for Obedience and Rally or AKC Novice Off Lead; or who have the AKC RE title or one leg toward the AKC CD title.  Emphasis will be on practicing exercises for competition.

OPEN WORKSHOP:  For dogs getting ready to compete.  All dogs must be approved by Ann Wallace.

OPEN RUN THROUGH:  For dog/handler teams who are competing or preparing to compete.  Dogs must know all Open exercises.

INTRODUCTION TO OPEN OBEDIENCE:  Students will continue to train the heel free and figure eight exercises plus introduce the dumbbell, drop on recall, and jumping.  Dogs must have at least one CD leg, have completed the Novice Off Lead class, or have approval by Rickie, Louise, or Pam.

BEGINNER UTILITY:  This class will introduce Utility Obedience exercises.  Dogs must be retrieving.

OBEDIENCE PUT-THROUGH:  Self-taught for anyone who is preparing to compete in an upcoming AKC event.

NOVICE RALLY:  For dogs who have completed Beginner II and CGC and are just beginning Rally or need to reinforce Novice Rally exercises.  All exercises will be on leash.

ADVANCED RALLY:  For dogs who have completed Novice Rally.  Dogs should be able to work off lead.  Priority given to dogs & handlers who have not taken Advanced Rally before.

RALLY COURSES:  For all levels of Rally with emphasis on Advanced & Excellent Levels.  Dogs and handlers should have taken Novice and Advanced Rally and should know all Rally exercises.

Thursday          11:00 AM – Self-led practice time.  Participants will be required to set up and take down the Rally courses before and after class.  NO LIMIT  C

 

CFF PRACTICE:  For dogs who have taken the CFF class.

Tuesday                  12:00 PM – Self-led practice time

 

GAMES, TRICKS, AND FUN WITH YOUR DOG:  For trainers who want to add some variety and fun to their training.  Very good for TDI dogs.  Prerequisite:  CGC and reliable recall, or with permission from Sherrie or Jan.

AGILITY, FLYBALL, AND TRACKING

 

BEGINNING AGILITY I: For dogs who have completed Performance Sports or have instructor permission prior to signing up for class (please have instructor sign registration form).  Must have good off leash control and reliable recall.  Dog/handler teams will be introduced to agility equipment and basic handling exercises.

AGILITY DRILLS & SKILLS:  This class is for beginner/novice dogs, and will provide an opportunity to practice basic handling, contact behavior, and weaves.  For dogs who have taken the Beginning Agility 2 class (or higher).

AGILITY DRILLLS:  This class is for dog/handler teams competing at the Open and Excellent levels.  Dogs not competing at those levels must be approved by Gretchen Brenes.  It will focus on fine-tuning weave pole entries, front and rear crosses, 270-degree turns, 180-degree turns, serpentines, and threadles.  Dogs must be able to do 12 weave poles and front & rear crosses.

CLASSES ARE 8 WEEKS UNLESS NOTED.

COSTS (unless noted above):

Any class listed above is $85.00 for the first class at WSDTC.

Any subsequent class is $75.00

Interns pay $40.00 and members are free except outside agility.

Members in the outside agility classes will pay a $15.00 fee per dog.  Interns pay $40.00.

Tracking fees – a $25.00 fee for club members who have not paid the Hilltops usage fee is required.

Money must be received with the registration form from everyone (including interns and members) desiring to enroll in a class(es).  Forms received without the proper enrollment fee will be returned to the owner and a place in the class will not be held.
