Winston-Salem Dog Training Club Fall 2010 Schedule

Classes To Begin the Week of September 27, 2010

 Registration Deadline Is September 13, 2010

NOTE TO STUDENTS: Our Instructors teach with a variety of training methods.  Classes are coded according to the following key:

     F (Food)  – The use of food as a reward/motivator is strongly encouraged.

     N (No Food) – The use of food is not permitted in class.    

     C (Combination) – Food is permitted, but the class will also utilize training techniques that do not rely upon food.

Classes in PINK use Basic Registration form

Classes in BLUE use Advanced Registration form

BASIC OBEDIENCE CLASSES

PUPPY CLASS: For dogs between 8 weeks and five months of age.  Born between April 27, 2010 and August 2, 2010.

Junior Puppy Class:

For all puppies from 8 weeks to 15 weeks of age on the first day of class.  Born between June 14, 2010 and August 2, 2010.

COMPETITION OBEDIENCE CLASSES

PERFORMANCE SPORTS: This class prepares dogs for agility, flyball, and other performance sports.  For dogs who have completed Beginner II.

Wednesday          6:00 PM – Louise Mowbray (Instructor); Betty Dampier, Pam Robbins, Susan Nesbit, & Kerry Nesbit (Assistants)Limit 12  F   FULL

COMPETITION I: For individuals interested in competitive obedience.  Focus will be on learning skills for the novice obedience ring.  Requirements: Recall, loose leash walking, name recognition, 1 min. sit stay & 2 min. down stay; handler should have trained at least one dog through CGC or equivalent.

PRE-NOVICE/NOVICE OBEDIENCE:  Introduction to Obedience.  For dogs who have completed Beginner II, CGC, and Foundations for Obedience and Rally.

NOVICE RALLY: For dogs who have completed Beginner II and CGC and are just beginning Rally or need to reinforce Novice Rally exercises.  All exercises will be on leash.

ADVANCED RALLY: For dogs who have completed Novice Rally.  Dogs should be able to work off lead.  Priority given to dogs & handlers who have not taken Advanced Rally before.

Monday                     6:00 PM – Tina Morrissey & Dolly Diehl (Instructors)Limit 8  F

RALLY COURSES:  For all levels of Rally with emphasis on Advanced & Excellent Levels.  Dogs and handlers should know all Rally exercises.  NO LIMIT

Thursday                  11:00 AM – Participants will be required to set up and take down the Rally courses before and after class.  F

OPEN A WORKSHOP: For dogs who were enrolled in the summer session Open A Workshop.

Monday                     11:00 AM - 1:00 PM (two hour class) – Gayle Horrell (Instructor)Limit 6  C FULL

K9 FREESTYLE PRACTICE: For dogs who have taken the K9 Freestyle class.

 Monday                  1:00 PM – Self-led practice time

AGILITY AND TRACKING

BASIC TRACKING II: For dogs who have completed Beginning Tracking I.

BEGINNER II AGILITY: Continuation of the Beginner I Agility class.  For dogs who have completed Beginner I Agility or have instructor approval.  Class will initially begin at 6:30 PM and change to 6:00 PM as days get shorter.

BEGINNING/INTERMEDIATE AGILITY:  Continuation of the Beginning/Intermediate Agility class.  For dogs who have completed Beginning/Intermediate Agility or have instructor approval.  Class will initially begin at 6:30 PM and change to 6:00 PM as days get shorter.

Class starts September 1, 2010...Registration due August 20, 2010

All participants at outdoor sites, whether students or instructors, are requested to leave the premises in a prompt manner following the conclusion of their class(s).  Parking and host privacy must be considered and observed.  Use of these fields by the WSDTC is a privilege, not a right.

Agility & Tracking Classes

            *            Classes will meet at Hilltops

            **            Classes will meet at Louise Mowbray's Field (Advance)

            ***            Classes will meet at Robin Tower's Field (Pfafftown)

CLASSES ARE 8 WEEKS.

COSTS:

Any class listed above is $75.00 for the first class at WSDTC.

Any subsequent class is $65.00

Interns pay half price ($37.50) and members are free except outside agility.

Members in the outside agility classes will pay a $10.00 fee per dog.  Interns pay $37.50.

Tracking fees – a $25.00 fee for club members who have not paid the Hilltops usage fee is required.

Money must be received with the registration form from everyone (including interns and members) desiring to enroll in a class(es).  Forms received without the proper enrollment fee will be returned to the owner and a place in the class will not be held.
